[cbi-announce] Thank you!

Things have been quiet here lately, though I continue to post new package releases as warranted. Perhaps you even forgot that you're still on the <cbi-announce> mailing list. :-)

Today I'm pleased to share some very happy news, at the risk of being a bit self-promoting. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the major professional organization for computer science and engineering. Each year they recognize one outstanding doctoral dissertation in those fields from among all those written and nominated worldwide.

The 2005 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award winner is ... yours truly, for my dissertation entitled "Cooperative Bug Isolation"! Whee! :-D See <http://campus.acm.org/public/pressroom/press_releases/3_2006/liblit.cfm> for the official press release.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting this work. By its very nature, this project could not have happened without the help and support of a willing user community. To quote from part of the Acknowledgments section of my dissertation:

I am indebted to the many members of the open source community who
have supported our work. My thanks go out to the many anonymous
users of our public deployment, and to the developers of the open
source projects used in our public deployment and case studies.

So ... thanks. I couldn't have done this without you.

Amusing footnote: the first draft of ACM's press release described my approach as "gathering information from the executions of large numbers of software end users." I pointed out that this makes me sound like a serial killer and suggested that they change "executions" to "experiences". Much better. :-)
