These are orthogonal issues.

Sarek is a Simics configuration, which does not have any coherence associated with it. Using Ruby, you can attach a memory model to the sarek machine model, and that memory model can use any of the supported Ruby protocols.

Similarly, Ruby cares nothing about the simulated OS. It simply gets memory requests from a processor and satisfies them. You can run any OS you want on top of the Simics Sparc processor model (or the x86 model if you install those Ruby patches).
