Re: [Condor-users] Problem with computers remaining in pool

There are no UDP packets getting lost.  One other possibly important point is that I stayed logged into these computers constantly (I'm lazy and it takes too long to log in).  I noticed when I logged out that they appeared not to disappear.  After a more in-depth look, they still disappear from the queue, sometimes for hours, sometimes just for 15 minutes.  But then they fix themselves somehow, and show up in the pool again.  This phenomenon only happened when I was logged out.  When I left them logged in, they never fixed themselves.

If so, then I don't know what it is. Original suggestions to the problems I had were that maybe UDP
packets were getting lost so if I amended config files to use TCP for those then the problem should
go away.

I didn't get round to doing that (more interest from our users in Linux), but I haven't seen the problem
since all was moved to 6.8 series.

Which version of condor are you using. I used to have this problem all
the time with 6.6 releases, but it seems to have finally gone away in the latest
versions.

I have a very small test pool running with a Rhel-4 central
manager and
3 Windows XP nodes. It runs fine in the short term, but when
I leave it
overnight, or for a few days, some of the nodes will no
longer be in the
pool (they don't show up under condor_status). Condor is
still running
on them.
