If the OP meant HOLD as in the condor sense, i.e. the job stops (check pointing if possible) and is removed from the currently executing machine and left on hold on the schedd then there are a couple of options: http://condor-wiki.cs.wisc.edu/index.cgi/wiki?p=HowToLimitMemoryUsage (just replace all the memory stuff with how long the job has been running on the local machine).

If you mean HOLD in the sense Ian was referring to then refer to his email :)
