I guess you refer to the Ubuntu repository package and not the Debian
one from http://www.cs.wisc.edu/condor/debian?

I do not want to use the package from Ubuntu repository because (as
far I understand) it is missing standard universe...

Also, linking the libraries did not change anything, I get the same
errors and jobs are vacating as soon as they are claimed....

I'll apt-get --purge remove condor now....and try
condor-7.4.4-linux-x86_64-debian50-dynamic.tar.gz
