I suggest you try to compile a cross compiler for your workloads.
Compile natively on the simulator may take a very long time and have a
high chance to fail. Once you have a binary compiled for your
simulation target, you can use the simics hostfs (mount host file
system and copy to your simulator), start the execution of the
workload, and then save checkpoints.

This is actually a Simics question, you should probably post to Simics
forum to get more answers.
