I am not sure that Gems supports for Simics 4.2. I am using Archer Simics, they have the license for simics 3.0. follow the link below, which may help you.

I am trying to set up GEMS-2.1.1 and Simics 4.2.70, but I am getting errors during the compilation of ruby.Below are the messages:
$GEMS/ruby  make PROTOCOL=MOSI_SMP_bcast DESTINATION=MOSI_SMP_bcast

make[1]: Entering directory `/home/xx/gems/gems-2.1.1/ruby'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `simics/device-api.h', needed by `x86-linux/generated/MOSI_SMP_bcast/obj/attrparse.o'.  Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/xx/gems/gems-2.1.1/ruby'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I used gcc4.1.2

I tried many times, but the problem also have.
I appreciate any clue to overcome this problem.
