Re: [Condor-users] limit on the number of input files ?

Ian,
Just out of curiosity, I thought the execution node was running XP on x86, how can a solaris executable (non x86) run on an x86??
Windows can natively run about 99% of Linux/Unix executables for x86 on x86, as long as SFU is installed and the GCC versions match etc, but runing zip -A on solaris and using on XP, sounds unlikely to me :-\ , I was thinking of zipping it with powerzip on the network.

I had thought of this - I was just curious to find
out the reason why it failed. The Solaris command

zip -A

looks like it will do the trick. Interestingly the
Solaris man page mentions support for the Amiga
and VM/CMS. Would that be the "sublime to the ridiculous"
or vice versa ? ;-)

BTW I notice that the BLAST (the reason for the above)
distro from NCBI comes in a handy self-extracting zip form. I've found this really useful in Condor since it recreates
the directory structure for all the data files etc
(BLOSUM matrices and stuff) on the execution host.

Hi Ian,
A very quick solution, I suppose is to create a self-extracting zip file
and submit that, with a batch file to run it, before your actual program.
I think we have such a Zipping program on our network.
Hope it helps.

HI,

Very quick question. Is there a limit on the number
of input files that can be transferred to an execution host.
I can transfer about 100 OK but when I tried ~ 500,
condor_submit dumped core straight away. The total
size of the files was about 530 KB so much less than
the 2 GB limit.

thanks,

-ian.
