Re: [Condor-users] condor on windows XP

I honestly don't know what is causing your problem, though I have seen XP machines take 10 minutes to really start everthing they want to at startup.
The document I was referring to is:
http://docs.optena.com/display/CONDOR/How+To+Increase+Debugging+Messages
This came via a reply from Michael Yoder of Optena and helped me to solve my problem. The additional information I got at my submit machine didn't help much but the additional information at the non-executing "execute" machines helped me to zero in quickly. You will have to look at multiple log files in the C:\condor\log folder (assuming default install location).
If you search the list, there was some discussion about UDP and the SP2 firewall but the 6.6.10 release was supposed to fix those problems. I applied the fixes mentioned and didn't get any result, as they weren't the cause of the problem.
At the time I installed, we were running Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition v. 7.62, which had no anti-spyware functions. More recent versions may. I won't be able to check this until after the weekend. We've recently upgraded to Symantec AV Corporate Edition v 10. After changing the Debug levels and restarting, I'd recommend looking at the Master log after all processes have restarted.
I try to leave all systems running most of the time, even if they are not actively running jobs.
If anyone can throw better light on this, they are welcome to chime in.

Cheers,

Phil Crawford

Hi Phill,

In my system nortan antivirus is running and it will scan every time when we start windows and due to some security reason we can't stop it. I noticed that after installation of condor 6.6.10 when i check in windows task manager it shows only condor_master.exe but after 10-15 min the other supporting services like collector, negotiator and other starts automatically .What is the reason of this delay i don’t know because in windows 2000 or Linux as soon as condor_master service starts all other services start automatically.

Can you please tell me the changes that I should make in my condor_config global and local config file so that condor should work efficiently without disturbing others users work.

Thanks

Dear itpals,
I can't help you with your installation problems as I've never had problems installing Condor on Windows XP. I have a pool of about 20 machines. As with installing any software on Windows XP, you do need to be logged in as a member of the administrators group on the machine for the installation to proceed properly. Do you have any antivirus/antispyware running?
I can tell you, emphatically, that you need do NTFS on your filesystem or Condor will not execute any jobs. This is a security feature. If cCondor can't set permissions on its local user's directory, it won't run the job. However, I had to turn on additional debugging messages to find the cause of this problem. There are documents on how to do this at docs.optena.com . Thanks to Optena for this resource.

Cheers,

Hi Friends,

Whenever I try to install condor 6. 6 .10 on windows XP machine some times setup gives some error or remain incomplete and if some how it installed then it starts only condor_master services not the other services like collector ,negotiator .....what's the problem I am not able to understand .I read in some document that before this installation stop the service  Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) It is visible in windows 2000 professional but not in windows XP.

Can anybody tell me that how I install condor on windows XP and before installation what changes should I make in the system. For running condor on windows XP, Is it compulsory to have NTFS system or we can do with FAT32 also.
