Ian,

the stderr and stdout log files are empty. I dont have the email
service set up so no email. However the logs (in debug mode) are
telling me nothing either - it just says the job has terminated
with signal 53. is there a list of signal number to meaning mappings ?

What do you mean by "managed" ? interestingly we only see this problem on 
machines where we installed condor through active directory (using a custom 
made condor.msi) although the settings & access rights to the directories 
are identical as far as i can tell ..
