Re: [Condor-users] Unix jobs on Windows PCs

Hi all,

First, my apologies if this is too broad for this list.

We're looking into setting up a Condor flock using the machines in our
public labs. These machines run Windows. We'd like to run Unix jobs on
these boxes. We're looking into things like running virtual Linux
machines on these Windows boxes and other options.

Is anyone out there doing something like this? If so, could you tell us
what kind of configuration you have? Are you doing virtual machines,
Cygwin, or other options?

I haven't yet tried it (beyond "just booting it"), but there is a condor
virtualized cluster node appliance you can download from vwmare.com.
You go there and download the free vmware player (for Windows), go to
their list of free download appliances and find the condor appliance,
grab it and give it a boot. I >>think<< that you can use this to set up
a small trial cluster using the architecture you're shooting for, for
free, in a few hours. However I'm a condor and vmware newbie (although
I know a fair bit about clusters themselves), so don't ask me for help
getting the cluster itself configured to run in this sort of virtualized
environment. I'm waiting on having the time to try it myself.

Thanks in advance.
