Title: RE: [Condor-users] MCNP (or similar) on Condor anyone ?

This may not be applicable to MCNP as I haven't used it, and I'm running all the processes on a single CPU - which may not be what you want either.

I run PVM jobs on in the vanilla universe on Windows2003.

These jobs are meant to be run in lockstep (do one timestep in CodeA, use PVM to send message with required info to CodeB, do one timestep for CodeB, pass message back to CodeA, etc, etc...)

I have a standard install of the PVM libraries on every machine in the cluster (it's only 5 machines, so this is feasible). I use scripts to create the submit files. The process is tar my files for transfer to the execute machine, and write out a dos batch job that:

-triggers the untarring of the transferred files,
        - run a perl script to modify my job's actual input file to account for the processing machine name and file locations,

        - run my actual job
        - tar the results for copying back to user's results directory.

The batch job becomes the executable file in the submit file.

Hope this helps,

Tammy

This may be a long shot but ...

Has anyone had any experience of running MCNP (or similar)
using Condor vanilla/globus (not MPI) universe. This is
a Monte Carlo radiation simulation code which we at present
run using MPI on various clusters. This seems rather wasteful
and I'm wondering if there's a way of running it without the
communications harness as a trivially parallel application using
Condor.

regards,

-ian.
