You didn't give many details about what you're doing, but the first thing to do is make sure the machines can all find each other by name. If you're using your own private hostnames this may involve putting them in /etc/hosts on each machine, or running your own small DNS server. (I use dnsmasq to provide a local DNS view for my nodes.) Also, make sure /etc/hosts on each machine has its own name listed with its real IP, not with 127.0.0.1, or you'll have problems.
