So are there no clues in the log, out or error files as to what is
wrong?

If not, have a look in the Schedd.log on your submitting machine,
and the Startd.log on the executing machine. Any clues in those?
You can force which machine it will run on by using its name directly in
the
Requirements statement - then you know where to go look!
