Re: [Condor-users] Preemption and vacate jobs based on job priories not user priorites.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for Replay. Very good suggestion.

1) If I use accounting groups. Is there is any way to set the priorities for the groups pre-determinately. Instead of configuring rank expression in machine or using condor_userprio.

2) My requirements is not to change priorities of the groups once set that is fixed. I have a doubt PRIORITY_HALFLIFE will affect my requirements.

Thanks,
Johnson

Johnson,

To get Condor to preempt a job with a job belonging to the same user, you need to assign the jobs to different accounting groups. In other words, from the negotiator's point of view, the jobs need to appear as though they belong to different logical users. If you have a small number of different job priority levels, then you could just map each of these to its own accounting group. Then you could either adjust the priority factors of those accounting groups to reflect their relative priorities, or you could configure a machine rank expression that gives the accounting groups different ranks on the machine.

If that's not enough detail, let me know.

Hi,

In our condor pool we submit job with a single user only. In manual it says PREEMPTION_REQUIREMENTS is only applies to preemptions due to user priority. Because I am using single user can I achieve preemptions using job priority.

It seems to be job priority also used for sending jobs in priority order for negotiation. Can I preempt low priority jobs if no resource available for high priority jobs in context to JOB_PRIORITY only not user priority.

Any help/guide will be useful.
