I would suggest that your Linux hosts are incorrectly configured.
Having fully qualified domain names is required for Internet-style
TCP/IP networks. The fact that these hosts are virtual machines does
not change that requirement.
There are workarounds for Condor but, as Rob points out, these
workarounds require workarounds of their own. Seems needlessly complex
to me when giving the hosts their own names makes everything work.
