Re: [HTCondor-users] alternative to email

Thanks for your example! Very clear and concise way to show us what is going on with mailx.

We don't have access to the mail server. There is a separate team that handles it. I am not sure how procmail comes into the equation, can you provide an example?

I was thinking of taking the message and creating a jabber entry and have it instant message the user or build a webpage which shows all the finished job status

I suggest using your mail system as-is. Create aliases or delivery rules
(procmail for example) for handling HTCondor messages. Have these
aliases or rules forward mail to the appropriate SMTP-to-whatever
gateways you desire. Pagers and SMS are commonly implemented.

I prefer this method. It puts message routing in the "hands" of tools
that are made specifically for message routing. This makes for easier
maintenance: it centralizes routing policies and you don't have to
maintain and distribute custom scripts across a pool. It simplifies the
addition of new gateways: just create appropriate aliases or rules on
the mail server.
