I don't think the value of this knob on the central manager matters (unless you are using a collector tree, and even then I wouldn't expect it to result in a single lost machine).

The fact that the central manager is an older version of HTCondor *might* matter.  What version is it?

Sorry, forgot. You can tell I don't get to use it very often.

So on the 8.-now-6.1 node in question this is true. On the 8.2.10 central manager:

Looks like maybe a clue. I'll see what it'll take to bump the central mangler to 8.6.
