I suspect the following is a firewall problem, but I believe I had holes in
all 3 firewalls concerned (gulp!).

Any idea what precisely may be causing this?

wk-ibm2 is the machine I am trying to flock *to* (I call it by name
on the submitting machine to ensure it doesn't go elsewehere). It has a
firewall,
it is a outside our site firewall, and we also have a firewall round the
central node
which is (in this case) is the submitting node.
