Re: [Condor-users] Java with Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It looks like you can override this system property on the command- line. If anyone is having trouble with Java on OS X try adding "- Djava.vm.vendor=Apple" to your JAVA_EXTRA_ARGUMENTS.

Best,

My best guess so far is that Apple's Java system properties defines
java.vm.vendor with some extra quotes:

	java.vm.vendor = ""Apple Computer, Inc.""

Problems parsing this property into a ClassAd results in a failure
that fools Condor into thinking Java is not available.

If anyone knows how to modify this system property please share it...

I've noticed that on my PPC Mac that occasionally when I run java I

Also, can you run the benchmark yourself from a command line. Go
into your installation's lib directory and try:

java -cp scimark2lib.jar:. CondorJavaInfo new 2

Further thoughts...

Does Condor, when running the Java benchmark at startup, break one of
the two rules for Rosetta emulated code described here
<http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2005/qa1295.html>.
Probably a question for a Condor developer.

I guess if anyone with old PPC Macs has the same problem, then it
must
be something else.

By running top I see java running for the 2 second benchmark.
So, my
guess is that it writes some output to a directory/file that it
does not
have permission to. Condor presumably sees the error, but
probably just
tries to copy the error output to the user; assuming that was
similarly
redirected to somewhere protected, it will be an empty file.
Hence, java
is deemed not to work but we the user see nothing. Is this
likely? Does
it help anyone to advise where to relax permissions (i.e. give write
access)?

Thanks for advice: I was wondering if the symlink could be a
problem.

However, what is the fix? I have tried substituting the actual
executable's path for where I had /usr/bin/java in the config, but
same result :-(

Could it be that /usr/bin/java is actually a symlink on OS X?

I have the same issue, but no one ever was able to find a

Hope this helps,

I've just added an Apple Mac to our pool, mainly to run Java
jobs.
However, although it appears when I do a condor_status, it does
not when
I do a condor_status -java.

Any ideas? I have JAVA = /usr/bin/java in the config file.

thanks!
