Re: [Condor-users] condor_mail Problems On Windows

Tim,

As Matt said it on his e-mail the work around on that issue is to copy e the condor_mail.exe from other machine with a lower condor version. I ran into the same issue a few month ago, Ben Burnnet replied with Matt's same answer that the condor_mail binary on version 7.2 is broken and he suggested to copy it from other machine running a lower condor version . I have a cluster on 22 CPU's which are running all in windows machines running version 7.05 of condor. I copied it from of those machine to the c :\Condor\bin directory but first I took the precaution of renaming the old condor_mail with a different name just in case the suggestion didn't work but it did. You never know if that binary could be helpful or not. I just wanted to give my 2 cents in this discussion letting you know that someone did it and worked.

Ben,

Copying the condor_mail.exe from a computer running version 7.05 to a

system running 7.2.0 worked as you suggested. Considering no one had

tried it before, I took the risk and now I can submit jobs and my system

doesn't hang forever.

Thanks for your help,

Sincerely,

Alex

Hi Alex:

Nope, not as far as condor_mail.exe, it is simply broken in 7.2.0.  If

you

have 7.0.5 on other machines, you could try copying it over to the 7.2.0

machines.  But no one has tried this, so it may not work.  Either way,

we've

corrected this issue, along with a few others, and we will be making the

next stable release available very promptly.

Regards,

-B

The windows condor_mail binary is broken in the latest release, copying

the binary from the older stable release has been reported to be a

workaround. Note that several of the windows users on this list who

normally upgrade to the stable windows release have stayed on the 7.0

series in anticipation of 7.2.1

Sorry if this has been reported before but I'm just starting out with

Condor and would really appreciate some advice...

On 7.2.0 under both XP and Vista, condor_mail appears to be stuck in an

infinite loop: it does not terminate and Task Manager shows that it is

eating up about 50% of CPU time.  The email doesn't get sent.  There is

nothing untoward in argc, argv or stdin and I can feed the same

information into Blat (manually at a cmd prompt) and the email gets sent

OK.

On 7.0.5, condor_mail doesn't take over the machine but the email still

doesn't get sent.

Is there a fix/work-round for this?
