[Condor-users] USE_VISIBLE_DESKTOP screwy in 7.2.4?

Hi All

Just been doing some testing with the USE_VISIBLE_DESKTOP option.

Setup - submit and execute nodes different PCs both running windows XP
and condor 7.2.4

We had been running 7.2.3 but found the option was broken but fixed
for 7.2.4 (see https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/archive/condor-users/2009-May/msg00139.shtml
and http://www.cs.wisc.edu/condor/manual/v7.2/8_3Stable_Release.html).

I ran a simple submit file running a batch script that just started notepad.

The job ran as expected, i.e. saw a notepad window pop up. If I exited
notepad then the job finished as expected.
However from then on the execute PC behaved strangely.
The taskmanager now showed nothing in the Applications tab even though
there were a number of open apps/windows.
And starting any new programs would not produce any visible window
at all. Sometimes they would appear in the Processes tab, e.g. calculator,
but other apps, bigger ones like PaintShopPro, Excel, Word, etc. would
just give a windows error-type beep and fail to even be seen in Processes
in the Taskmanager. In fact, if I exited taskmanager and tried to bring it
up again using alt-ctl-del then nothing would appear, as with starting up
any application, apart from a command prompt.

The only way to get things back to normal was to logout and log back in
again. Am I doing something wrong? Or has anyone else seen this
behaviour?

Cheers

Greg
