Re: [HTCondor-users] HTCondor 8.2.10 Released

What I should have written, is that all users on campus belong to the same uid domain.
We do not have a database for this.

I am not allowed to create a domain-wide 'condor' user because there may be other condor
pools on campus unrelated to the pool I am trying to set up.

I have run condor for several years without problems, prior to SELinux and rhel 7, installed from the tarball. Using rpm (to get to the new SELinux policy file), the rpm creates
the 'condor' user on installation. I have the feeling that the
system administrators here do not like me messing with the password file on all our hosts (a few hundred). Does the SELinux policy for condor require the existence of
this user?

Hi Svein,

Itâs highly discouraged to add the âcondorâ user to external databases anyway: this can cause problems in starting up HTCondor (particularly, if the condor or other services are started prior to availability of said database).

Instead, itâs best to treat this like user ânobodyâ or âhttpdâ: automatically installed or allocated by the system.

Can you provide a bit more explanation as to why you want to have condor in the external user DB anyway?

Thanks,

Brian

PS - RHEL / Fedora have the ability to reserve static UID/GID for a particular system user. HTCondor should really do that, but I donât think anyoneâs followed up on that yet...

Would it be possible not to depend on user "condor"? We have a campus wide user database and
I can not add this user. I have previously used the CONDOR_IDS configuration variable when using
a Condor tarball. Could this be done also with the rpm version and SELinux?

Will there be a Condor tarball including SELinux policy for centralized installation over NFS?

To make things easier on folks, I also made a previous repository for the 8.2.10 release.

cd /etc/yum.repos.d
wget http://research.cs.wisc.edu/htcondor/yum/repo.d/htcondor-previous-rhel7.repo

Since we make the development, stable, and previous stable tarballs available; I decided to have development, stable, and previous repositories.

The SELinux configuration works with the default installation. However, it is known not to work with advanced features such as cgroups. I will continue to improve the SELinux rules for HTCondor in the 8.4 series.

Let us know how it works for you.

Svein,

If you have the EPEL repo enabled, it provides the development release of HTCondor. You can add the line:

exclude=condor*

to the EPEL repo file to disable this. Then you can get the HTCondor repo via:

cd /etc/yum.repos.d
wget http://research.cs.wisc.edu/htcondor/yum/repo.d/htcondor-stable-rhel7.repo

This will get access to the stable release. Note that the current stable release is 8.4.0, but the 8.2.10 release can be forced by specifying it.

I am not able to find the rpm for 8.2.10, for rhel7. There is no link on htcondor
download page. When I use yum for installation,, I get release 8.3.6. The reason
why I need 8.2.10 is to get the selinux policy.
