Well the protocol needs to know if the cache has no tag for hte block and needs to allocate one.

Subject: [Gems-users] Necessity of NP state

Dear All,

I am working on a MESI_SCMP_tiledL2bank_directory protocol, and not seeing the evident difference between NP state and I state.
Referring the previous post from https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/archive/gems-users/2007-January/msg00019.shtml, I couldn't understand why NP state should be needed.
Could you give me an advice? I will appreciate to it if I can hear any response.

Best Regards,

Young
