[Condor-users] Some jobs run for 1sec then hang idle

I have a user and her assosiate who are running a particular
application ove many data sets.  Many (but not all) of her jobs, and
none of her associate's get match run for about 1sec and then are
forcibly evicted and hang in the idle state (with all hosts "matching
but rejected for unknown reasons)

My only real clue is in the ShadowLog file I see:

6/15 13:12:21 (5320.21) (22361):error: Error: Couldn't open standard
file '/dev/null'

which makes no sense to me as all systems do have
$ ls -l /dev/null
crw-rw-rw-  1 root root 1, 3 May  8 12:13 /dev/null

Anyone know what's going on?
