Yep. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't: current system 
potentially leaves nodes not getting critical updates and pools of 
mismatched nodes full of heisenbugs. If you push the latest to every 
node, braking changes may break pools.

(The answer of course is to not let breaking changes happen in the 
stable branch.)
